Gather: Women in Tech Talk & Social Vol. 4

  • Unbounce 400 West Georgia Street Vancouver, BC, V6B 5A1 Canada (map)

Welcome back to another Gather YVR event! For those of you joining us for the first time, we're a group organizing events aimed at bringing together awesome women (like you!) who work in tech while donating to a local cause. The goal of Gather is to build community, to support each other, make meaningful connections, and give back to the larger community - all while having a fun time in a low pressure environment.

Proceeds from our ticket sales go directly to a nonprofit organization in Vancouver, with an option to contribute a little bit more to help us put on future events.

For this event, we're excited to have two amazing guest speakers:

  • Antonia Issa, Learning Manager at Moz. She'll be sharing a bit of her journey in the tech industry including how she recognized her skills and then was able to transfer them from one line of work to another.

  • Cynthia Kinsella, Chief Development Officer at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. In her role, Cynthia leads Fundraising and Communications at the GVFB, and is a member of the executive team.

We're also very proud to be donating ticket proceeds to The Greater Vancouver Food Bank in partnership with Startups Care's fundraising initiative.

And in usual Gather event fashion, we'll provide some drinks and snacks for all! You'll have the opportunity to learn something new, meet some great people, and give to a worthy cause.

A huge thank you to Unbounce for providing us their space and providing the food and beverages!

Antonia is a Learning Manager at Moz. She entered the tech world by way of Customer Experience at Slack, and is soon heading on a new adventure with Airbnb's Open Homes program. She has a non-linear background which include studies in cultural anthropology and an MBA. She worked all over the figurative and literal map from owning a jewelry store in Mexico to running sustainability initiatives for large scale events in Bermuda. She's here to share how she recognized her skills and then was able to transfer them from one line of work to another.

Cynthia Kinsella is the Chief Development Officer at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Cynthia has always been passionate about the front line, and does her best work in customer centric environments. She has been delighted to see how member-centered the Greater Vancouver Food Bank strives to be in all aspects of its operations. As CDO she focuses on revenue generation, donor identification and stewardship, strategy development, community engagement, and communications across many audiences including corporate and individual donors, industry partners, the media, as well as the GVFB staff and volunteers. She brings 20+ years of measurable results in client services, operational leadership, change management, business development and account management, in addition to building high performing teams.

We're partnering with Startups Care to raise money for The Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Startups Care is a grassroots event that brings together Vancouver technology companies to raise food and funds for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. This event is 100% volunteer and 100% of all proceeds go to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. If you're interested in having your company get involved, check out their website.

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food and related assistance to those in need. Their mission is to create empowering environments that provide and promote access to healthy food, education and training.
